Dyson is the innovator and creator of the transparent bin, bagless and cyclonic technology vacuums. These vacuums feature strong suction power and tools that are known for removing pet hair with ease. Dyson has received extremely high consumer reviews in all vacuum categories. All Dyson vacuums use cyclonic technology, reduce clogging of the main filter, are bagless and have great suction power.

Dyson has released its new “Tangle Free” Mini Turbine Tool with most Animal vacuum models. These vacuums are built using the same poly carbonate material used for making crash helmets. Dyson’s technology allows vacuums to move around obstacles with less effort. The dust bins are easily detachable from the bottom, and can be emptied right into your trashcan. Most Dyson vacuums come with a warranty of five years.

The new 2016-2017 Dyson Cinetic Science vacuums have eliminated the need to clean or replace filters.

The 2016-2017 Dyson V6 Animal Cordless has the power of an upright vacuum, but weighs less than 5 pounds.

The newest Dyson V8 Absolute Cordless Vacuum is Dyson’s best cordless model.

Most Dyson upright and canister vacuums have HEPA filters to reduce the dust, dirt, and allergens from getting from your carpet to the air you breathe.

Dyson HEPA Filter

Dyson vacuum filter is the key for good health. “Dust can trigger allergies and asthma,” says James Sublett, MD, a spokesman for the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Vacuuming with a good machine reduces the amount of dust you inhale. We verified Dyson models with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter, which filters out 99.7% of small particles.

Dyson microbiologists work hand in hand with Dyson engineers, tirelessly making sure that the new machines remove more and more allergens. Their hard work pays off: Dyson has the largest range of certified asthma and allergy friendly technology, approved for allergy sufferers by Allergy Standards Limited.

How to clean the filters – step by step guide

Turn off the power and unplug the machine.

Step 1 – Removing filter A
Remove the clear bin from the machine by pressing the cyclone release catch. To remove Filter A, lift the release catch to remove the filter from the machine.

Step 2 – Removing filter B
To remove Filter B, put the machine on its back and turn the central locking dial on the outer cover of the ball anti-clockwise until the cover is released. Lift off the cover and turn the filter one-quarter anti-clockwise to release.

Step 3 – Washing the filters
Wash both filters with cold water only (do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine).
Repeat the steps shown below until the water runs clear. Filter B should be rinsed and tapped out until the water runs clear, then tapped out again to ensure all excess water is removed. This will normally require up to 10 rinses.

Step 4 – Drying the filters
Ensure you lay filter A in a horizontal position to dry. You can leave it in a warm place for 24 hours, until completely dry.
NB: Do not dry the filter in a tumble dryer, microwave or near a naked flame.

Step 5 – Replacing the filters
When the filters are completely dry, place filter A back into the vacuum. To refit Filter B, push the filter into the ball housing and secure the filter by turning it one quarter-turn clockwise. When refitting the outer cover of the ball, keep turning the central locking dial clockwise until it clicks. Test the machine.

Types of Dyson filters

The different models of Dyson vacuum cleaners have different designs of filters. Basically there are two major classification of Dyson filters:

Pre-motor filters

The pre-motor filter, as the name implies, is the filter before the vacuum motor or engine. It helps to prevent substances or particles like dust, that can cause blockage from entering the motor.

Post filters

Post motor filters on the other hand help trap particles of carbon from the engine.

When you should change the Dyson filters

A filter is an integral part of the device and you should either change it or wash it at regular intervals of time. In the case of pre-motor filters, you should change them every 3 months. Post motor filters  can last for 6 months without a problem.

A Dyson device will change its performance if any of its part is barely functioning or breaks down. Therefore, a Dyson vacuum cleaner will barely function properly when the filter is over loaded with dust particles from previous uses. At this point you will observe that the equipment has either stopped sucking or has a low level of sucking power during use. This is caused by blockage on the filter which prevents air passage through the filter.

This is when you should change the filter, or wash it using the steps and directions stated in the earlier stage of this article.

When you remove the Dyson filter, you will discover that it will be full of brownish dust particles or blackish carbon particles.

Note: not all blockages are caused by dust particles on the filter, some could be caused by picking up obstructing objects like sweets or toys. So make sure that you take out the things that block your vacuum in order to keep a healthy filter.

Most popular Dyson filter models – how to clean and/or replace

Dyson DC39 pre filter

This filter is mostly used in Dyson DC 39 and it’s a pre motor filter. This Pre-Filter is also used for Dyson DC59, DC62.

Dyson DC41 Pre Filter and Post Filter

This post filter is found on all series of DC41 Dyson vacuum cleaners (DC41 Animal, DC41 Animal Complete, DC41 Animal Exclusive, DC41 Animal Plus, DC41 Multi Floor Exclusive).

The filter found in Dyson V6 or DC59 is found at the top of the vacuum. Once you remove it you can actually wash it in your sink but remember to wash without soap or detergent. While you wash the filter, squeeze it with care as it has plastic components that might crack. Do that for at least two times and then gently wave the filter to get rid of the remaining water after which you can place the filter on a dry piece of cloth or towel and allow it to dry for a couple of hours before placing it back to the machine.

Dyson DC40 filters

The first step is to remove or detach the bin after which you remove the catch that says filter on it. You will find the filter inside of the bin. Once you managed to take it out from the vacuum you can go ahead to wash the filter as earlier specified.

Also within this device there is also a post mode filter which is also known as the exhaust filter. You can find this filter by the wheels, at the left side of the base of the device. To get to the filter, firstly place the vacuum to a horizontal position after which you roll out the screw holding the filter to the device. Gently detach the post mode filter by twisting it to the left to unlock it from its locked position. Wash with cold running water for some time and shake it while its under the water. Dyson indicates that you shouldn’t use detergent in washing any of the filters. Please ensure that both of them are completely dry before installing them back to the equipment.

Dyson DC25 filters

Before you dis assemble any electronic device, switch it off from the wall socket and unplug the device to avoid electrocution or malfunctioning of your equipment. Pull out the bin and open it up to get directly to the post mode filter. Both the post and pre mode filters of this device have a circular shape.

To get to the post mode filter, set your equipment horizontally and you should see a button with a different color from the rest of the ball. Push the button inside and lift up the filter covering and you should see the blue filter  with a red button on it. Press the red button to detach the filter from the rest the device and place it under running water to get it clean. Squeeze the pre-filter and tap the post-filter on your palm to get rid of hidden dust. Place them in an airy location in order to dry up and install them back only when they are completely dried up.

Dyson DC 08 filters

The pre motor filter and the post mode filter are horizontally opposite from each other. In order to get to the position of the pre motor filter, you have to remove the vacuum bin from the vacuum cleaner after which you should see a blue top lid with a filter sign on it. All you need to do is place your hand under the lid and lift it up. When you do that the filter compartment will open and you will get to the pre filter and then you can replace it with a new one or take it out for washing.

The post motor filter is located at the base of the bin. Lift the click lid and gently take out the plastic component that covers the filter. You can change the filter in this compartment a normal carbon filter or a HEPA filter. Both types have a circular shape.

Dyson DC28c

There is only one Dyson filter on this equipment, and it is located on the top of the bin. The manufacturer recommends to wash it once a month. The filter is of blue color and is a bit cylindrical in shape. Please note that there is no other filter on this equipment.

Dyson Cinetic Big Ball

For those using this vacuum cleaner, note that it does not have a pre motor filter, it only has a post motor filter which is NOT washable. Dyson designed the filter to last a lifetime, so please do not dismantle the device in search for the filter. Please contact Dyson maintenance team for any complains concerning this model.

NOTE: Do not place any of the filters in a washing machine, dish washer or in a micro wave for either washing or drying as it would totally condemn the filters.

You can find all Dyson replacement filters including the HEPA filters on the Dyson website or Amazon.
